What is HRCT Thorax Scan

A high-resolution computed tomography scan that focuses exclusively on the thoracic region which includes the lungs and chest cavity is known as an HR CT Thorax scan. This advanced imaging method is very helpful for the diagnosis and evaluation of lung disorders such interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and other conditions affecting the chest since it allows for the acquisition of comprehensive images of the lung tissue and chest structures. It enables medical professionals to identify minute abnormalities that could go undetected on typical CT scans or X-rays by generating high-resolution images.

HRCT Scan Procedure

The procedure for an HR CT Thorax scan involves the patient lying flat on a motorized table that moves through the CT scanner. The scanner rotates around the chest, capturing the multiple detailed X-ray pictures from different perspectives. A computer then combines these pictures to produce a complete picture of the thoracic region. The actual scan just takes a few minutes, generally without any pain. Sometimes a patient will have a contrast dye injected into their vein to make particular parts of their chest easier to see. To ensure clear images, patients are frequently advised to hold their breath for brief intervals.
